Can you use any wool yarn for felting or does it need to be a particular type? I really love the felted bag on the front slide show, whomever did it, done an awesome job! ;D

Jane (ljcatfeathers) made that gorgeous bag. She has inspired me to want to felt. We just hand dyed some wool and are getting ready to knit it up. You can check it out in the group projects room. I believe that the link in that room has some info on felting but not positive. I believe you can use any type of wool as long as it is 100% natural fibers. Do not quote me on that though.

Chelle, thanks for the info hun, I am considering making me a large bag to carry my looms and stuff with me to appts and be able to loom as I sit and wait. Can you tell I am addicted? lol I would like to try and felt it afterwards, So I have been looking for info on it, I think hand dying your own would be so awesome to try! Lori

Hi everyone my name is Jan, I love that felted bag also, does anyone know where she got the pattern? Also does anyone have a favorite brand of wool yarn they use? I have heard people talk that some felt better then others.

I am pretty sure she designed it herself.

So, what is felting exactly? Is it the dying part, or something else you do to it? I've been trying to get this question on here for awhile, but either something would interrupt me(phone usually, we have dial-up). I've seen several things felted, but can't figure out the technicals of it all! Lol! Mary Lee

Felting is when you knit something up in a natural fiber like wool then wash and agitate it in hot water to make it shrink up and "felt". It gives tthe appearance of felt.
