I think the schooner sock is a good starting pattern. I really know very little about any kind of knitting, having only begun it as a hobby in November, but here is my schooner sock progress.

Hi dotty, thanks for the advice, I have the primer book and have seen that pattern, now if I can only get the time to do them, lol I even bought the yarn I need for socks and for my 64 peg sock loom, but I want to try socks or slippers on the KK first to get used to it, I think the hardest part will be the heel for me, as I hear thats the trouble spot for holes and skipped stitches, Thanks again, Lori

If you use the blue Knifty Knitter and get holes in the heel (it is very common) just turn the slipper inside out and stitch up the holes. Turn it right side out and you will never tell.

I was looking at Isela's Plushy Slipper Socks done on the blue KK. The yarn used in the pattern was Berroco Plush and she also mentions Patons Be Mine. I can't find the Berroco is my local store and anyway, the Berroco is a little "pricey" for me. I know that the Berroco is a category "5" or bulky. Do you think any category 5 would work? Unfortunately, either I'm blind, but I didn't see a guage.

ljcatfeather: Thank you so much for the picture. I'm also working on the schooner sock. I've really been struggling. From your pic I can tell I'm STILL looming too tight. Really having so much trouble trying to loosen up my stitches. I don't seem to have any problems with the other looms. Needless to say I have temporarily set it aside, and will pick it up later. I have noticed that my yarn doesn't seem to have much "give". I'll have to check what kind of sock yarn I have.

Regarding Plushy Socks and yarn. I also could not find the Berroco(sp?). and I noticed some yarns do not have the number on it which drives me nuts as I don't know that much about yarns yet.
What I did was look at a #5 of another brand and went around looking at plushy soft yarns that were in my price range and the same thickness that was in my hand. It worked. I haven't finished the poor thing yet. It's been hanging around since last summer and the LAL we were doing at the time, LOL! However, it seems to be working ok. If anything, it's at least practice and you will learn how to stitch one up. You can also get a cushy thinner yarn and use two strands as one.. You can mix colors this way also--say like a hot pink and purple together-what ever your favorite colors are.
When I use two strands, I take the outside starter and the inside strand and do those together until the skein is done--before starting another skein. That way you do not have to fool with carting around two skeins while knitting. LindaJ

Dotty, The schooner sock isn't hard to do, I had problems with too much tension, which makes it hard the do the stitches. It had nothing to do with the loom unfortunately it was the operator I'll pick it up again and see what I can do. I haven't done many socks. Just the schonner and toe-up. They were both easy.

Bought a cheapo 10in knitting board from Hobby Lobby. I am going to try to make some socks with it and see if I can figure it out. I really have no idea where to start since I cant quite figure out if its similar to those listed in the patterns that are available. Wish me luck. lol

My Kiss Sock Loom came yesterday!!!! I am so excited to start "real" socks. I am trying out the Schooner socks first. The Kiss loom is a bit different than Isela's Wonderloom so I am having to try and figure the pattern out for less pegs. I think 64 pegs on the Kiss will be way too many.
